The Future of 3D: Enhancing Content Creation

Adobe has always been at the forefront of the 3D industry, constantly pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with technology. In collaboration with INDG, Adobe has released their 3D Trends Report, which highlights the ways 3D continues to shake up various industries and changing the way we think about design, manufacturing, and consumer experiences.

Three Key Trends in 3D

What’s in store for content production in the coming years? According to Adobe, three key trends are set to bring about a revolution in the way we create and consume 3D content:

The Demand for Realism

Realism will become even more central in the world of 3D. That means consumers are demanding a higher level of photorealistic detail and authenticity. Luckily, the advancements in technology are making this possible. The devil is in the detail – shadows, reflections, and lighting must be accurate or you risk breaking the illusion.

But when it comes to computer-generated imagery (CGI), the pursuit of perfection is nuanced. At INDG, our technical artists understand that it lies in the imperfections that make an image feel alive. For instance, a wrinkle in a fabric or a small thread out of place can add that extra touch of realism. When we provide realistic CG content at scale for our clients, we aim to strike that balance of creating visually attractive images that still feel authentic and believable.

Fashion’s Embrace of 3D

Creative freedom, cost savings, and sustainability are just a few of the reasons why the fashion industry is racing to embrace 3D technology. Fashion moves fast; trends come and go at lightning speed and designers can only create so much in the time available to them.

Before 3D, designers were often caught in a lengthy cycle of waiting for physical samples to be created, which could extend over several months. The process of aligning these prototypes with the original design intent would add further delay. Now, designers can quickly visualize and iterate on their creations, reducing the need for physical prototyping. This allows for near-instant experimentation and even greater human creativity.

At INDG, we believe that CGI is set to enhance the fashion industry. We can create an array of photorealistic images that go beyond a conventional photoshoot. It allows us to produce a vast and varied range of marketing content. In addition, it opens up avenues for more immersive and interactive experiences that are not feasible with traditional photography or in-store displays.

One 3D asset can perform multiple roles, the same asset can enable all content needs – think of the marketing content, social media, campaign content, newsletters, ads, banners etc.

Shaping the Retail World

Retailers are also feeling the seismic shift towards 3D technology. Online shopping is the new norm and retailers are looking for new ways to engage and entice customers. Effective ecommerce requires massive volumes of product imagery. This is where 3D can cut costs, save time, and change the entire marketing process.

At INDG, we’ve been helping clients produce photorealistic product imagery at scale using GRIP – our in-house software. With GRIP, retailers can create thousands of unique images in a matter of hours. By digitizing and codifying product elements, GRIP makes it possible to generate numerous versions of a visual, each tailored to a different demographic, regional, or seasonal audience.

3D also gives way for engaging storytelling where customers can visit virtual showrooms and be transported into an environment where they experience products in a completely different way. “They can be transported to a winter landscape to see how outdoor clothing performs in the snow, or to a beach to test out swimwear. This level of immersion can provide customers with a unique and personalized experience that encourages them to purchase,” – says Bastiaan.

INDG – Advancing with CG Technology

As we see, the thirst for high-quality engaging content is ever-growing across all industries. Brands cannot keep up with this expanding need by using traditional content creation methods. This is where technology comes in, allowing us to achieve realism, interactivity, and scale. And it looks like it is here to stay.

As a trusted partner in realistic content, we’re excited to see the growth and adoption of 3D across industry verticals. We aim to be at the forefront of continuing to push the boundaries of what’s possible with this technology.

Our goal is to make the content creation process more efficient and scalable. To achieve this, our team of experienced artists and developers partner closely with our clients to understand their vision. Then working hand-in-hand, we deliver realistic and interactive CG content that uplifts our clients’ visual storytelling.
